Share common sense of diamond blades

In daily life, we don't often come into contact with diamond tools, so people are still relatively unfamiliar with it, but once we want to use it, we must understand the following common sense about diamond-coated tools.:

1.The difference between coatings

Amorphous diamond (also known as diamond-like carbon-translation and annotation) coating is a kind of carbon film deposited by the PVD process. It has both a part of the SP3 bond of diamond and a part of the SP2 bond of carbon; its film-forming hardness is very high, but it is lower than the hardness of the diamond film; its thickness is also thinner than the diamond film we usually deposit. When processing graphite, the life of amorphous diamond coated tools is 2-3 times that of uncoated cemented carbide tools. In contrast, CVD diamond is a pure gold corundum coating deposited by the CVD process. The tool life of graphite is 12-20 times that of cemented carbide tools, which can reduce the number of tool changes and improve the reliability and accuracy consistency of processing.

2.Processing hardened steel

Diamond is composed of carbon atoms. When certain materials are heated, carbon atoms are sucked out of the diamond and carbides are formed in the workpiece.Iron is one of these materials. When machining iron-group materials with diamond tools, the heat generated by friction will diffuse carbon atoms in the diamond into the iron, causing the diamond coating to fail early due to chemical wear.

3.Tool restrictions

The quality of re-ground and/or re-coated diamond-coated tools is difficult to guarantee. Since the coating generated on the surface of the tool is pure gold corundum, it takes a long time to re-grind the tool with a diamond grinding wheel. In addition, the tool used to make the diamond grow. The preparation process will change the chemical properties of the surface of the tool. Since this chemical property is required to be very controlled when coating, it is difficult to guarantee the effect of the tool re-coating.
